Companions, See informaiotn bleow submitted by Comp. Keith W. McKeonDDGHP District No. 6:By now most of you have read about the tragedy that has befallen a young enlistee in the PA Army National Guard while attending basic training at Ft Jackson, SC. Alyssa and Brianna are twin 17 year old girls who chose to enlist together. While they were nearing completion of basic, Alyssa collapsed and unfortunately never awoke. While medical personnel were working on her, it was discovered that she had an undetectable heart defect which stopped her heart. The cardiologist also found the same defect in Brianna who had surgery today to have a pacemaker installed.I tell you this because the father and mother (Stephen and Susan Cahoon) are in the medical services community themselves and are very involved in the Scranton RMH (the family lives in Mount Pleasant, PA). The family is going to continue collecting soda can tabs as an additional fundraiser for the RMH (they are calling it "Kisses for Aly"-see attached flyer). In addition to the monetary donations that nearly all of us collect, it would be great if your subordinate Chapters could take part in the "Kisses for Aly" program as well. Please check with your local RMH to see if they are participating. It would be a great way to honor the memory of a young warrior that made the very rare choice in this day and age to serve her nation. Thank you for your time and considration. Frat, Keith W. Our Committee was organized to promote Masonic scholarship and research within Pennsylvania. However, many of our committee members work beyond the Commonwealth to help further Masonic studies. A great example of this is the Masonic Society and their publication, The Journal of the Masonic Society. Published quarterly, the Journal is one of the highest quality publications produced by Freemasons, for Freemasons. A subscription is included in the annual cost of membership to the society, making it one of the best values in Freemasonry.Several Pennsylvania Freemasons have been involved in the Society through the years, including members of the Committee on the Pennsylvania Academy of Masonic Knowledge. If you are a Brother who is looking for thought provoking reading, we encourage you to check out the Masonic Society!Learn more about membership here: themasonicsociety.com/content/membership/membership-requirements/ ...
